Eigentlich gibt es zwei Favoriten für diesen Titel, aber da ich selbst die Hauptdarstellerin in Näd Mikas wundervollem "Cassandra"-Video bin, fällt dieser aus dem Wettbewerb *lach*. Und ansonsten ist meine Wahl klar und eindeutig und der Pokal wandert nach Argentinien!

Endlessly stunning outfits: Designer Yan Xcess from YAN HATS ♥

In diesem feschen Musik-Video von PATOKAI sehen wir den versammelten Untergrund von Buenos Aires im 'Bandenkrieg' (die Ultras gegen die Frauen-Gang Bettys), den Electro-Künstler PATOKAI selbst, Models, Kleinkriminelle und Tänzer und nicht zuletzt atemberaubende Outfits argentinischer Mode-Designer*innen (wie VIBRADIOS und YAN HATS) und kinky und sexy Stylings (von Yan Xcess (YAN HATS), Make-Up von Tamara Stella und anderen) aus der offensichtlich sehr umtriebigen 'B.A. (Buenos Aires) Trash' Szene... ein Blockbuster!!! ♥

Außerdem ist es in Zeiten kapitalistischer Dauer-'Krisen' gut zu wissen, dass die Fashionistas, Riot Grrrls und Cyber-Punx aus Buenos Aires schon einmal geübt haben, Überwachungskameras elegant aus dem Weg zu räumen... (^.^) Einfach nur wunderbar!!! ♥

Actually, there are two favourites for this title, but since I am the main actor in Näd Mika's wonderful "Cassandra"-Video myself, this one falls out of the competition *lol*. And apart from that my choice is clear and univocal and the cup and trophy goes to Argentina!

In this posh and smart music video from PATOKAI we see the assembled underground of Buenos Aires in a 'gang war' (the Ultras versus the women's gang of the Bettys), Electro artist PATOKAI himself, models, small-time criminals and dancers and not least breathtaking outfits by Argentinian fashion designers (like VIBRADIOS and YAN HATS) and kinky and sexy stylings (by Yan Xcess (YAN HATS), Make-Up by Tamara Stella and others) from the apparently very bustling 'B.A. (Buenos Aires) Trash' scene... a blockbuster!!! ♥
Furthermore, in times of permanent capitalist 'crisis', it's good to know that the fashionistas, riot grrrls and cyber punks from Buenos Aires once already have practiced to elegantly sweep monitoring cameras out of the way... (^.^) Simply wonderful!!! ♥

Abschied?

Lasst uns für einen Moment annehmen, STYLE! IT! TAKES! # 5 zur Berlin Fashion Week Juli 2014 wäre die letzte Veranstaltung dieser Art unseres schönen Projektes gewesen - und es gibt durchaus eine ganze Menge guter Gründe, die dafür sprechen.

Was für eine zauberhafte Geschichte wäre das gewesen? Nach zwei Jahren und fünf Nächten der Mode, Performances & Musik, von denen eine wunderschöner als die andere war? So schön, dass - müsste ich mich entscheiden - ich mich niemals für meine Lieblingsveranstaltung entscheiden könnte!!! Ok., ich finde, die letzten vier (!) Veranstaltungen waren besser als die erste - und auch da gab es schon unvergessliche Highlights, und gerade diese hat alles Weitere auf den Weg gebracht und deutlich zu unserer Profilierung beigetragen, mit vielen Lerneffekten auch im Sinne, was wir nicht wollen, worauf wir aufpassen müssen, was großartig war und mit wem, wie und wohin wir weiterreisen wollen... :-)

Was für ein schönes Ende also wäre das? Wie immer in einer tollen und überraschenden Location, mit einem Programm sieben höchst unterschiedlicher Mode-Labels (mehr denn je und auch internationaler denn je), wundervoller Shows, Performances und Konzerte, mit Musiker*innen, Tänzer*innen und Performer*innen, die zusammen Mode-Designs inszenieren und - nebenbei gesagt - sich über diese Zusammenarbeit (wie die meisten anderen Beteiligten aller Veranstaltungen bisher) überhaupt erst kennenlernen... ♥

Farewell?

Let's assume for one moment, STYLE! IT! TAKES! # 5 for Berlin Fashion Week July 2014 would have been the last event of this kind of our beautiful project - and indeed there are quite a few good reasons speaking for that.

What an enchanting story would it have been? After two years and five nights of fashion, performances & music, of which one has been more wonderful than the other? So beautiful that - if I would have to decide - I never could decide for my favourite event!!! Ok., I think, the last four (!) events have been better than the first one - and also there have been unforgettable highlights, and especially this one has driven forth everything else and has strongly contributed to our profile, with many learning effects also in the sense of what we don't want, of what we have to keep an eye on, what has been great and with whom, how and whereto we want to continue our journey... :-)

So what a beautiful end would that be? In a terrific and surprising location again, with a programme of seven highly varying fashion labels (more than ever and also more international than ever), wonderful shows, performances and concerts, with musicians, dancers and performers who stage together fashion designs and - by the way - even get to know each other through this cooperation at all (like most of the other participants of all events so far) ... ♥

Ein wunderschönes Ende

Ist es nicht das, was STYLE! IT! TAKES! immer wollte - das Feiern und Inszenieren von Mode in einem lebendigen Raum, die vollständige Fusion verschiedenster Kunstformen, Lebensrealitäten und Styles in einem liebevollen Setting mit bezaubernden Gästen und einem spannenden, nicht in jedem Detail vorhersehbaren Programm? Es wäre ein wundervolles Ende - so wie die allererste Show vor zwei Jahren, Clea Cutthroats gymnastische Fräulein Kink-Show mit Zarkoff live (bis heute eine meiner absoluten Lieblingsshows in einem Zauber-Kaleidoskop von Lieblingsshows) ein wunderschöner, explodierender Champagner-Korken war für all das was kommen sollte. Und es kam noch viel! Und das allerallermeiste davon war wie ein wunderschöner Traum... ♥♥♥

Der Gedanke ans Aufhören ist also verlockend - und so ist es mehr als gut, dass nach dem Ende des Bühnenprogramms, das ich Euch hier in Artikeln und Photo-Strecken vorgestellt habe, noch nicht einmal unsere letzte Veranstaltung zu Ende war! Es kamen ja noch weitere tolle DJ-Sets unserer phantastischen und wunderbaren DJs FRAU RICA, STEVE MORELL und NÄD MIKA ♥♥♥ ... und auch ich habe schließlich noch Entspannung gefunden... (^.^)

A beautiful end

Isn't it just what STYLE! IT! TAKES! always wanted - the celebration and staging of fashion in a vivid space, the complete fusion of various art forms, life realities and styles in a lovely setting with charming guests and an exciting, not in every detail predictable programme? It would be a wonderful end - just like the very first show two years ago, Clea Cutthroat's gymnastic Fräulein Kink show with Zarkoff live (up to today one of my absolute favourite shows in a glamour kaleidoscope of favourite shows) has been a wonderful, exploding cork of champagne for everything what was to come. And there was much to come! And the very very most of it has been like a wonderfully beautiful dream... ♥♥♥

So the thought about to cease is tempting - and so it is more than good that, after the end of the stage programme which I have introduced to you here in articles and photo series, not even our last (latest) event has been over! Since there were further great DJ sets to come by our phantastic and marvellous DJs FRAU RICA, STEVE MORELL and NÄD MIKA ♥♥♥ ... and also me finally found relaxation... (^.^)

Abschied nehmen

Tragischerweise gab es später in der Nacht aber auch einen (nicht nur für mich) dramatischen Abschied. Unser reizender Besuch aus Argentinien, Yan Xcess von YAN HATS und ihr Mann, Pato von PATOKAI, mussten irgendwann los. Und zwar für sehr sehr lange. Sie waren schon länger in Berlin gewesen, aber in all dem Vorbereitungsstress hatte ich sie leider kaum sehen können - übrigens ein Grund, warum ich ans Aufhören denke. Nun endlich wäre vielleicht Zeit gewesen, in den Tagen danach gemeinsam schöne Dinge in Berlin zu unternehmen! Aber die beiden fuhren schon am nächsten Morgen weiter nach Amsterdam, später nach Barcelona - PATOKAI auf Europa-Tour... Da viele von uns die beiden schnell ins Herz geschlossen hatten, war es also Zeit für Abschiedsphotos. Glück im Unglück - so wurden wenigstens auch unsere DJs Steve & Näd und unser "Best Girl" Inka noch abgelichtet (Dank der lieben Tania von Fotania Photography)! :-)
DJ Frau Rica ist hier leider nicht zu sehen, da sie zu der Zeit die tolle Musik aufgelegt hat... aber, um es kurz zu machen, STYLE! IT! TAKES! # 5 war eine bombastische und sehr schöne Veranstaltung, von den Anfängen bis zum Ende spät in der Nacht! ♥

Wave goodbye

But tragically (not only for me), there has been a dramatic parting later at night, too. Our lovely visitors from Argentina, Yan Xcess from YAN HATS and her husband, Pato from PATOKAI, eventually had to run. And namely for a very very long time. They have been in Berlin already a bit longer, but with all the stress of preparations, unfortunately I rarely could see them - incidentally one reason why I think about cessation. Now finally, maybe there would have been time to do beautiful things together in Berlin in the days after! But the two drove already on the next morning ahead to Amsterdam, later to Barcelona - PATOKAI on Europe tour... Since many of us have taken the two of them quickly into their hearts, it was therefore time for good-bye photos. Luck in bad luck - leastwise in that context our DJs Steve & Näd and our "best girl" Inka have been pictured, too (Thanx to lovely Tania from Fotania Photography)! :-)
DJ Frau Rica sadly is not to be seen here, since at that time she played the wonderful music... but, to cut it short, STYLE! IT! TAKES! # 5 has been a bombastic and very beautiful event, from the beginnings to the end late at night! ♥

Letzte Worte

Schön zu sehen war auch die Freude von Pato & Yan, Näd Mika und Steve Morell einmal persönlich zu treffen, da sie verrückterweise von beiden schon in Argentinien gehört hatten. Und Pato ist tatsächlich schon seit längerem NÄD MIKA-Fan - die Kunde von ihrer großartigen Musik hat also bereits Buenos Aires erreicht!!! :-) So ergab sich ein schönes Nacht-Gespräch zwischen uns über die Schwierigkeiten und Vorteile eines Daseins als Underground-Künstler und das Organisieren von Events wie STYLE! IT! TAKES! in Berlin oder dem CIRCO ELÉCTRICO in Buenos Aires... Pato hat mir zum Abschluss noch sehr liebe und einfühlsame Worte mit auf den Weg gegeben, die ich hier zwar nicht zitieren möchte, aber im Kopf und Herzen weitertrage... und Yan hat mir zum Abschied ein so bezauberndes Geschenk gemacht, das so schön ist, dass ich darauf ein ganz anderes Mal eingehen möchte...!!! ♥♥♥

Last words

Also nice to see has been the joy of Pato & Yan to meet Näd Mika and Steve Morell personally, since funny-wise they had heard about both of them already in Argentina. And Pato actually is a fan of NÄD MIKA since a longer time - the message of her great music indeed has reached Buenos Aires already!!! :-) So a beautiful night conversation arised between us, about the difficulties and advantages of an existence as an underground artist and about the organisation of events like STYLE! IT! TAKES! in Berlin or the CIRCO ELÉCTRICO in Buenos Aires... At the end, Pato gave me very kind und empathic words to take along, which - though don't wanting to quote them here - I carry further in my mind and heart... and Yan has made me such an enchanting farewell present, which is so beautiful that I want to come back to it at a completely other time...!!! ♥♥♥

Als Inka, Näd und ich als glaube ich allerletzte Gäste Richtung Taxi liefen, schrien ein paar betrunkene Weddinger auf der Straße: "Ihr Scheiß Mode-Wichser - verpisst Euch!!!" oder ähnliches. Sie meinten nicht uns - oder haben uns zumindest übersehen. Wir mussten ziemlich lachen - und stiegen mit all den Kisten in unser wohlverdientes Taxi. Zu Hause angekommen, wollte ein neuer, hilfsbereiter Nachbar beim Kisten hochtragen helfen. Er erklärte freundlich, Mode total doof zu finden. Ein paar Tage später habe ich ihn dann händchenhaltend mit (s)einer sehr modischen Freundin ins Haus laufen sehen... - sogar in Berlin: Mode ist eben überall!!! (^.^)

Return

When Inka, Näd and me walked towards our taxi as I think very last guests, some drunken Weddingers shouted on the street: "You fucking fashion motherfuckers - piss off!!!" or similar. They didn't allude to us - or at least have overseen us. We had to laugh pretty much - and climbed with all the boxes into our well-deserved taxi. Arrived at home, a new, helpful neighbour wanted to help carrying stuff up the stairway. He explained friendly, to see fashion as totally dumb. Some days later then, I have seen him coming into the house holding hands with a very modish friend or girlfriend... - even in Berlin: fashion is just everywhere!!! (^.^)

In meinem letzten Post zum PATOKAI-Konzert habe ich mich ja vor allem auf das Outfit der Tänzerin EN FINSTERNIS und ihre beiden Designerinnen konzentriert: den wunderschönen und speziell für unsere Veranstaltung angefertigten Kopfschmuck der Modistin Yan Xcess von YAN HATS aus Buenos Aires (Argentinien) und das bezaubernde schwarze Kleid von Vian Talab von

V I A N Fashion (Berlin). Nun kommen wir zum eigentlichen Protagonisten des zweiten und letzten Konzertes unseres Berlin Fashion Week - Events STYLE! IT! TAKES! # 5 - Summer Dream of Fashion, Performances & Music: dem fantastischen Electroclash / Synthpunk / Futurepop - Act PATOKAI, der in großartig bedruckten Textilien von VIBRADIOS Fashion auf die Bühne kam (beide ebenfalls aus Buenos Aires (Argentinien)). ElectroClash - Synth-Wave - Cyber-Punk - Futurepop at it's best: PATOKAI live

In my last post about the PATOKAI concert, mainly I have concentrated myself pretty much on the outfit of the dancer EN FINSTERNIS and her two designers: the wonderful headgear made especially for our event by milliner Yan Xcess of YAN HATS from Buenos Aires (Argentina) and the charming black dress by Vian Talab of V I A N Fashion (Berlin). Now we come to the essential protagonist of the second and last concert of our Berlin Fashion Week event STYLE! IT! Berlin Fashion Week, 12th of July 2014 (Panke Club in Berlin-Wedding)

PATOKAI und seine großartige, eingängige, mitreissende und vielseitige Musik habe ich Euch ja schon im Juni in diesem Blog vorgestellt, zusammen mit zahlreichen Photos von seinen besten Shows in Argentinien und seinen immer wieder aufs Neue überraschenden Bühnenoutfits. Aber was für eine Freude war es, diese geniale Musik endlich einmal live hören zu können!!! Unser Publikum (von denen die meisten wahrscheinlich zum ersten Mal PATOKAI gehört haben) teilte diese Freude ganz offensichtlich - es wurde mächtig abgetanzt und ich hatte den Eindruck, dass es niemanden gab, den seine Musik, sein Gesang und seine Performance nicht zum neuen Fan werden ließ! Was nicht verwundert - das Konzert war schlicht und einfach großartig und sehr sehr intensiv!!! ♥♥♥

Already in June I have introduced to you in this blog PATOKAI and his great, catchy, stirring and multifaceted music, along with many photos of his best shows in Argentina and his stage outfits surprising once more again and again. But what a pleasure it has been to have the possibility to hear this brilliant music finally live!!! Evidently, our audience (of which quite likely most of them heard PATOKAI for the very first time) shared this joy - it has been raved-up terrifically and I had the impression that there has been nobody who didn't become a new fan by his music, his vocals and his performance! Which is no wonder - plain and simple: the concert has been magnificent and very very intensive!!! ♥♥♥

Manche Leute scheinen einfach alles richtig zu machen. Zum Beispiel der Electro-Sci-Fi / Synthwave / Electroclash / Futurepunkpop-Act PATOKAI aus Buenos Aires in Argentinien. Ich meine, wir kriegen ja viele Mails und Messages, Anfragen und Angebote. Freundliche (erfreulicherweise die meisten), interessante, schöne, abwegige, lustige, vollkommen inakzeptable, bahnbrechende, nervige, wundervolle, unverschämte, großartige und niedliche (die mag ich am liebsten!). Und noch anderes mehr. Aber vielen ist gemeinsam, dass sie viel zu kurzfristig kommen oder Wesentliches nicht bedenken. Manche haben sich vorher offensichtlich wenig Gedanken über unser Projekt gemacht oder haben Schwierigkeiten, sich in die Komplexität unserer Veranstaltungen hineinzudenken. Wir sind ja zum Beispiel weder eine Booking-Agentur noch besitzen wir einen Club, wir sind auch keine Konzert- oder Partyveranstalter und auch keine Promoter. Noch nicht mal ein Musik-Blog sind wir. Wir entfalten jede STYLE! IT! TAKES! von Grund auf neu (inklusive Motto / Thema, Location, Mode, Darstellungsformen...) und haben im Grunde genommen nur Platz für ca. vier ausgewählte Live-Acts und wenige DJs im ganzen Jahr. Wenn schon, dann sind wir also ein Projekt für wundervolle Dinge aller Art (lest unser Manifest!!!) - Mode und Schönheit voran, aber eben noch viel mehr. Großartige Musik zum Beispiel. Die kleinen Revolutionen des Alltags. Die Schönheit von Künsten und Natur. Das Hochleben lassen von Femininitäten, Styles und Tänzen aller Art! Visionen! Und tolle Leute! Und ich kann Euch sagen:

Some people just seem to do everything properly. For example the Electro-Sci-Fi / Synthwave / Electroclash / Futurepunkpop act PATOKAI from Buenos Aires in Argentina. I mean, we indeed get many mails and messages, enquiries and offers. Friendly ones (fortunately the most of them), interesting, beautiful, odd, funny, totally unacceptable, groundbreaking, annoying, wonderful, impertinent, splendid and cute ones (those I like the most!). And even more. But many have in common that they are much too short-termed or didn't think about very basic things. Obviously, some have spent little thoughts about our project before or have difficulties to think their way into the complexity of our events. We are, for example, neither a booking agency nor do we own a club, we don't see ourselves as concert- or party-organizers and we are no promoters, too. Not even a music blog we are. We evolve every STYLE! IT! TAKES! from the ground up (including motto / topic, location, fashion, forms of expressions...) and have only space for about four selected live acts and a few DJs in the whole year after all. So, if we are anything, then we are a project for wonderful things of all kinds (read our Manifesto!!!) - fashion and beauty ahead, but even much more. Great music for example. The little revolutions of the everyday life. The beauty of arts and nature. Celebrating femininities, styles and dances of all kinds! Visions! And terrific folks! And I can tell you: PATOKAI - Top!!!

Erst hat 'Pato', der - wie wir gerade gehört haben - mit seinen Freund*innen selbst eine ambitionierte, multimediale Veranstaltungsreihe in Argentinien namens Circo Eléctrico ins Leben gerufen hat, unsere Seite bei Facebook gefunden - und geliked. Im November 2013 hat er mir dann eine Mail geschrieben. Sich vorgestellt, erklärt was er so treibt und mir vorgeschlagen, mal in seine Musik rein zu hören. Wenn ich Zeit und Lust hätte (hatte ich erstmal nicht!). In ganzen Sätzen, nicht in Internet-Neusprech. Er hatte sich offensichtlich mit unserem Projekt beschäftigt und gesehen, dass wir unsere Events halbjährlich zur Berlin Fashion Week machen. Im Januar und im Juli. Same procedure every year. Er bekundete Interesse, bei uns aufzutreten, weil ihm unser Projekt und die Verbindung von Mode und Musik sehr gefallen würden. Damit hat er sich schon mal von einem Großteil der Mails von Musiker*innen und DJ's abgesetzt, die zu vergessen neigen oder schlichtweg ignorieren, dass wir zuallererst ein Mode-Projekt sind (insbesondere männliche Musiker vergessen oder ignorieren das fast immer!). Er fragte nicht etwa nach einer Beteiligung für die Januar-Veranstaltung, die damals auch schon längst in der Mache war. Das wäre im Normalfall auch zu kurzfristig gewesen. Nein, für Juli 2014, zur damals übernächsten Fashion Week, die nun bevorsteht. Es wäre eine Berlin-Reise geplant, er könnte dann hier sein. Damit nicht genug, hatte er sich auch Gedanken zur Mode gemacht und schrieb, seine Frau sei Designerin, die würde mitkommen nach Berlin. Links inklusive. Und sie beide hätten auch sonst noch Kontakte in die Mode-Welt Argentiniens. Wow!!! :-) Aus Stress-Gründen bekam er dann zwar erstmal nur eine vertagende Kurz-Antwort, aber ich glaube, so viel richtig gemacht hat noch nie eine uns vorher unbekannte Person auf einmal!!! ♥♥♥

First, 'Pato', who - like we just have heard - himself has initiated with his friends an ambitious, multimedial series of events in Argentina named Circo Eléctrico, had found our page on Facebook - and liked it. Then, in November 2013 he has written a mail to me. Introducing himself, explaining what he is doing and suggesting to me, to give his music a listen. When I would have time and fancy (I didn't have back then!). In whole sentences, not in internet newspeak. Obviously he had checked out our project and has seen, that we are doing our events half-yearly to the Berlin Fashion Week. In January and in July. Same procedure every year. He indicated interest to perform at ours, since he would like our project and the connection of fashion and music very much. With this, he made himself stand out of the majority of mails by musicians and DJ's, who tend to forget or simply ignore, that we are a fashion project first of all (especially male musicians forget or ignore that nearly always!). He didn't ask for a contribution for the event in January, which has been in the making at that time already anyway. Normally, that would have been too short-termed, too. No, for July 2014, for the - back then - after next Fashion Week, which is approaching now. There would be a voyage to Berlin in the planning, he could be here then. But not enough with that, he also contemplated about the fashion and wrote, his wife would be a designer, she would also come to Berlin. Links inclusive. And both of them would have even more contacts into the fashion world of Argentina. Wow!!! :-) Being in stress, he admittedly got just an adjourning short answer by me for now back then, but I believe, never ever a to us previously unknown person has done so many things right at once!!! ♥♥♥

Wie die Dinge leider manchmal so laufen, musste PATOKAI dann ziemlich lange auf eine weitere Antwort warten. Aber eines Tages hat mich die Muse geküsst und ich habe mich mit seiner Musik beschäftigt. Hammer!!! Eine wunderbare Erweiterung der großartigen Musiker*innen, die wir schon in unserem Live-Programm hatten. Bombastischer Electro-Sound, großartig zum Abtanzen. Tolle - englische und spanische - Texte, soweit ich sie verstehe. Club-Musik. Underground-Pop-Musik! Geht ab! Wunderschön! ♥

Ich hatte es also nicht vergessen - wir vergessen nie jemanden!!! Das habe ich ihm auch geschrieben. Natürlich habe ich mich dafür entschuldigt, dass er so lange auf eine Antwort warten musste, aber es hat mir mit jedem Tag mehr leid getan, an dem ich mit ihm und seiner Frau (deren wundervolle Arbeiten ich Euch ebenfalls bald hier vorstellen werde) kommuniziert habe.

As matters stand sometimes, unfortunately PATOKAI had to wait quite long for an answer then. Stress. But, one day, muse kissed me and I devoted myself to his music. Awesome!!! A marvellous widening of our great musicians we already had in our live programme. Bombastic Electro sound, magnificent to dance to. Fantastic - English and Spanish - lyrics, as far as I understand them. Club music. Underground-Pop-Music! Rocks! Gorgeous! ♥

So, I didn't forget - we never forget somebody!!! That's what I wrote to him, too. Of course, I excused myself for letting him wait for so long for an answer, but I felt sorry every day more on which I communicated with him and his wife (whose wonderful works I will introduce to you here soon, too). Simply awesome!!!

I don’t know, if we tried to do something in places where rock was played we were too electronic to play there, or if we tried to do an event in a discoteque, a typical electronic nightclub, they told us that we were too rockers to play there."

Ich fürchte, ganz so gigantische Bühnenaufbauten, wie PATOKAI sie vom Circo Eléctrico aus Argentinien gewohnt ist, werden wir ihm demnächst in Berlin nicht bieten können... ;-)

Dann ging alles ganz flott. Zusage Berlin. Zusage Buenos Aires. Technik-Rider erfragt - umgehend und sauber zugeschickt (Ihr könnt Euch gar nicht vorstellen, wie oft eine Mode-Bloggerin Musiker*innen daran erinnern muss, einen Technik-Rider zu schicken!!! Ich habe sogar schon selbst einen erstellen müssen... (^.^)...). Presse-Photos erfragt - Presse-Photos werden in Rekordgeschwindigkeit zugemailt. So macht das Spass!!! Und nachdem ich nun einen schon lange projektierten Sermon zum Thema FAQ oder besser: was-ich-an-einer-Mitarbeit-interessierten-Musiker*innen-und-DJ's-immer-schon-mal-sagen-wollte geschrieben habe, anstatt Euch PATOKAI und seine Musik vorzustellen, schmeisst Ihr jetzt bitte sofort den Player an und guckt Euch ein Live-Video seines frühen Hits "Control" (von 2011) an. Die neue Platte ist zwar noch um einiges besser, aber das Stück ist ein Knaller, hat einen großartigen - leider viel zu aktuellen - Text und ist sehr catchy:

Then, everything speeded up. Commitment Berlin. Commitment Buenos Aires. Asking for the technic rider - mailed promptly and neat (you can't imagine at all, how often a fashion blogger has to remind musicians to send a technic rider!!! I even had to compile one myself once... (^.^)...). Asking for press photos - press photos are mailed to me at record speed. That's how it makes fun!!! And after I wrote now a since a long time projected sermon about the topic FAQ or, better to say: what-I-always-wanted-to-tell-musicians-and-DJ's-interested-in-taking-part-at-our-events instead of introducing to you PATOKAI and his music, you now please turn on the player immediately and watch a live video of his early hit "Control" (from 2011). Even though the new record is even very much better, the song is a cracker, it has great - unfortunately much to contemporary - lyrics and is very catchy:

The Square Wave Knight

Musikalisch erinnert mich "Control" (nicht nur wegen der Vocoder-Stimme) unter anderem ein wenig an das großartige Minimal-Electro-Projekt des Kanadiers Dave Rout von Datafreq (Songs wie "(I Like) Claudia Bruckens Lips" oder "Just Like 1981" auf dem Album "Fun For The Whole Family", Das Drehmoment Records, Berlin 2006), die ja in gewissen Berliner Kreisen auch sehr gerne gehört werden (mich eingeschlossen) - auch wenn PATOKAI's Musik in meinen Ohren mehr Komplexität und Tiefe besitzt. Und natürlich auch an Kraftwerk & Co. Generell werden als Einflüsse vor allem die ganz großen Namen aufgezählt, neben Kraftwerk, David Bowie und Michael Jackson (!) vor allem New Wave, Synthie- und Electro-Pop-Legenden der späten 70er und 80er Jahre wie Ultravox, Gary Numan oder The Normal und natürlich Depeche Mode, aber auch ihre Epigonen der 00er Jahre wie Miss Kittin & The Hacker, Ladytron oder Fischerspooner. Tatsächlich ist die Musik aber viel breitgefächerter und ist mit den lustigen, auf Soundcloud als Bezeichnungen benutzten Stilkreationen wie Electro-Sci-Fi, Futurepunk & Futurestep, Spacetechno, Robotclash oder Electropunk / ElectroRock - je nach Song - viel besser beschrieben...

PATOKAI macht schon länger Musik. Schon früher hat er experimentiert und mit Kolleg*innen versucht, mit Gitarren elektronische Musik zu kreieren, seit 2008 spielt er als PATOKAI Bass, bedient Keyboards und Synthesizer, Drum-Maschinen und Stimm-Modulatoren, die gleichzeitig live gespielt, geloopt (sequenced) und gesteuert werden und eine Symbiose zwischen Mensch und Maschine darstellen sollen. Er schreibt auch die Texte, singt und produziert selbst. Die erste PATOKAI-Veröffentlichung erschien 2011 ("Control"-EP), gefolgt von Remixen (2012) und der EP "Automaton" (2013). Sein gerade erschienenes erstes Album heißt "The Square Wave Knight" (2014) und ist wie gesagt einfach nur großartig!

Musically, "Control" reminds me (not only because of the Vocoder voice) beside others a bit to the great Minimal-Electro-project of Canadian Dave Rout from Datafreq (songs like "(I Like) Claudia Bruckens Lips" or "Just Like 1981" from the album "Fun For The Whole Family", Das Drehmoment Records, Berlin 2006), who are listened to and liked very much in some specific Berlin circles (including me) - even though PATOKAIs music is more complex and deep in my ears. And, of course, to Kraftwerk & Co, too. Generally, the very big names are listed as influences particularly, beside Kraftwerk, David Bowie and Michael Jackson (!) especially New Wave, Synth- und Electro-Pop-legends of the late 70s and 80s like Ultravox, Gary Numan or The Normal and certainly Depeche Mode, but also their Epigoni of the noughties like Miss Kittin & The Hacker, Ladytron or Fischerspooner. But actually, the music is far more diverse and is - depending on each song - much better described with the funny self-created style names used at Soundcloud as terms of description like Electro-Sci-Fi, Futurepunk & Futurestep, Spacetechno, Robotclash or Electropunk / ElectroRock...

PATOKAI makes music for quite some time. Earlier he experimented and tried to create electronic music with guitars together with fellows, since 2008 he plays as PATOKAI bass, operates keyboards and synthesizers, drum-machines and voice-modulators, which are played live, are sequenced and operated and controlled at the same time and symbolize a symbiosis of men and machine. He also writes the lyrics, sings and produces himself. The first PATOKAI release was published 2011 ("Control"-EP), followed by remixes (2012) and the EP "Automaton" (2013). His just released first album is titled "The Square Wave Knight" (2014) and is like a said simply brilliant!

Auch wenn das aus 11 Songs bestehende Album eigentlich keine Schwachstellen hat, hier meine Lieblingslieder und Anspieltipps: Der Opener "Kicking Glass", ein eingängiges Liebeslied, das zwischen Future Pop und wunderschönem 80er-Pop oszilliert - ein Sommerhit! Das spacige und technoide "El Mundo Virtual", das mich vollkommen in den Bann zieht (ich will das unbedingt live hören!!!), das powervolle, wirbelnde und treibende Electro-Clash-Stück "La Realidad", das düstere, langsame und soundverspielte "Thorns" (hier höre ich auch Daniel Miller / The Normal / die frühen Depeche Mode raus), die ElectroRock (!!!) - Nummer "Odisea", die mit ihren verfremdeten Gitarrensounds klingt wie Rock'n'Roll auf Ecstasy - und ganz besonders noch einmal die letzten beiden Stücke. "Amnesia" ist (wie viele Stücke auf der Platte) sehr tanzbar und gleichzeitig wunderbar sphärisch - was für ein großartiger Club-Sound!!! Der letzte Track, das EBM-Stück "Infinitive" erinnert mich musikalisch durchaus auch ein wenig an die glorreichen Alien Sex Fiend. Der Text ist ebenfalls grandios und es ist interessant, dass PATOKAI hier in seiner Gesellschaftskritik stark auf (nur scheinbar überkommene) weibliche Lebensperspektiven fokussiert: "be a girlfriend, be a wife, be a mother, infinitive". Sehr sympathisch - und das Stück rockt!!! Auftreten wird er übrigens in VIBRADIOS - Fashion (ebenfalls aus Argentinien) und es wird weitere (nicht nur) modische Überraschungen während seines Konzertes geben.

Though the album, containing 11 songs in total, has no flaws at all, here my favourite songs and highlights: The opening number "Kicking Glass", a catchy love song, oscillating between Future Pop and gorgeous 80s-Pop - a summer hit! The spacy and technoid "El Mundo Virtual", fascinating me totally (I absolutely want to hear this live!!!), the powerful, twirling and driving Electro Clash track "La Realidad", the dark, slow and sound-narcissistic "Thorns" (here I hear the ghosts of Daniel Miller / The Normal / early Depeche Mode), the ElectroRock (!!!) number "Odisea", which sounds with its alienated guitar sounds like Rock'n'Roll on Ecstasy - and eminently the last two songs again. "Amnesia" is (like many tracks on the record) very danceable und marvellously spherical at the same time - what a magnificent club sound!!! The last track, the EBM number "Infinitive" reminds me musically a bit of the glorious Alien Sex Fiend indeed. The lyrics are also superb and it is interesting that PATOKAI focusses here in his social criticism strongly on (only seemingly overcome) female live perspectives: "be a girlfriend, be a wife, be a mother, infinitive". Very congenial - and the song rocks!!! Incidentally he will perform in VIBRADIOS fashion (also from Argentina) and there will be further (not only) modishly surprises during his concert.

Damit haben wir diesmal neben all der Mode (mehr denn je!!!) wieder ein sehr abwechslungsreiches Musik-Programm. Die kuratorische Entscheidung, in welcher Reihenfolge die beiden Live-Acts auftreten, fiel diesmal aufgrund der Musikstile nicht allzu schwer. Wir haben ja keine Vorgruppen und Headliner, sondern alle Beteiligten sind gleich wichtig und ziehen an dem gemeinsamen Strang, der unsere Veranstaltung so bezaubernd und unverwechselbar macht. Also wird zuerst das großartige Hot Wave-Projekt THE WINGS OF DESIRE (Israel / Berlin), das ich Euch neulich schon hier vorgestellt habe, auftreten. Und dann kann zu PATOKAI abgetanzt werden, bevor unsere DJs FRAU RICA, STEVE MORELL & NÄD MIKA die Nacht zum Tage und die Party losmachen...

So, along with all the fashion (more than ever!!!) we will have a very varied music programme again this time. The curatorial decision, in which order both of our live acts will perform, wasn't too hard this time because of the musical styles. Since, we got no support acts and headliners, but all participants are the same important and are acting and cooperating together, which makes our event so charming and unique. So, first the superb Hot Wave project THE WINGS OF DESIRE (Israel / Berlin) I already introduced to you here recently will perform and play. And then you can dance and cut up the floor to PATOKAI, before our DJs FRAU RICA, STEVE MORELL & NÄD MIKA will burn the candle at both ends and unleash the nightly party...
