After our switch from the beautiful, arty gallery atmosphere to Urban Spree's club & dance room after midnight and a first driving DJ set by Steve Morell there - giving the starting fire for the second half of our fourth Night of Fashion, Performances, Arts & Music - NÄD MIKA went on stage for her furious and bombastic live show of her recently released great album "Liebling Bang Bang" and older songs. She wore a significant latex dress by WUNSCHGESTÖBER costume design and came with her amazingly erotic dancer ANITA. Having the perfect electronic party beats & a great appealing voice for her wonderful Berlin nightlife lyrics, her congenial live/life attitude & Anita's crazy dance show all on her side, NÄD MIKA's live set was hot as hell... it was simply like...

CASSANDRA uncensored

On our STYLE! IT! TAKES! # 4 - Night of Fashion, Performances, Arts & Music @ Urban Spree we had two exclusive video-release screenings from our live performing musicians SCHEN (“Electronic Bubbles”) and from NÄD MIKA (“Cassandra”) - both were shown for the first time ever!!!
First, after the Transgender Fashion Show, NÄD MIKA's Cassandra-Video had it's world première, and it was screened in the uncensored version! :-) Containing some BDSM-like scenes between me and Näd Mika's live dancer ANITA, the video got censored to be shown on stupid-nude-policy-platforms like Facebook or YouTube later... But our guests had the whole fun of this amazing video made by filmer Katha Gramke, cutted by Susi Hecht and performed by Kersten and Anita...
I love Näd Mika's song and the video filming gave me a chance to wear some extravagant outfits, mainly out of my personal wardrobe, and to make some hidden links to some STYLE! IT! TAKES! blog & project related clothes and accessories (books, fanzines, posters, hula-hoop-ring...)...

SCHWARZ-WEISS GERINGELT

Es war 1995, als ich mir mit strahlenden Augen mein erstes Exemplar der legendären schwarz-weiß geringelten Nylons von Pamela Mann bei einem Bummel in Camden-Town in London kaufte. Meine Gothic-Freundin Ronja hatte sie schon seit 1992. Damals prangten am Block-Eingang Kotti / Adalbertstraße in Kreuzberg noch überlebensgroße, gemalte Konterfeis von Marx, Engels, Lenin, Mao und Stalin - mit türkischen Untertiteln. Eine andere Zeit... Es gibt das gute Stück in dieser, bis heute unveränderten Form also mindestens seit 20 Jahren und wird heute weltweit verkauft (leider habe ich nicht herausgefunden, wann sie erstmals in dieser Form auf den Markt gebracht wurden).

Die für ihre auffälligen und verspielten Designs bekannte Firma Pamela Mann wurde jedenfalls schon 1956 gegründet und konnte nicht zuletzt aufgrund einer Partnerschaft mit der Fashion Ikone Mary Quant ihr Imperium schon früh ausbauen.

[Der Name stammt also nicht von dem US-amerikanischen Porno-Klassiker “The Private Afternoons of Pamela Mann” von 1975 – angesichts der Sexiness einiger ihrer Nylons, Leggings und Strümpfe vielleicht andersherum (^.^) ???]

Pamela Mann legen auffallend viel Wert auf ihren Status als „British company“ und darauf, dass zumindest die abschließenden Produktionsschritte (Verzierung, Druck, Verpackung) in England ausgeführt werden und dort 'Arbeitsplätze schaffen'. Wo und unter welchen Umständen diese und die vorausgehenden Produktionsschritte vonstatten gehen, verraten sie auf ihrer Webseite allerdings leider nicht (vgl. http://www.pamelamann.co.uk).
Wäre ja vielleicht auch mal interessant zu erfahren.

Die Produkte, allen voran die legendären Ringelstrumpfhosen, die es mittlerweile in allen Formen (als Strumpfhosen, Leggings, Strümpfe, Overknees usw.) und Farben gibt, sind seit Dekaden Dauerbrenner in verschiedenen Sub-Kulturen (z. B. Punk, Gothic, Gothic Lolita) wie auch als Street Fashion beliebt und präsent, werden aber interessanterweise auch immer wieder im High Fashion-Bereich aufgegriffen. Hier ein schickes Beispiel (via Absolutely Oblivious, Model & Photograph*in leider unbekannt, wer was weiß...) in einer etwas breiter geringelten Variante:

Tatsächlich ist das Design allerdings viel älter. Geringelte Strümpfe kamen bereits im Viktorianischen Zeitalter auf, besonders in der Kindermode. Damals 'durften' noch Jungen und Mädchen solche, meist mit Strumpfhaltern angebrachten Strümpfe tragen (links ein kleiner, unbekannter Junge; rechts Alexandra 'Xie' Kitchin - das Lieblings-Modell des Schriftstellers, Photographen und Mathematikers Lewis Carroll - im Jahre 1875 auf einem seiner Photos).

Diesen Modetrend griff auch der Illustrator von Lewis Carroll's Alice im Wunderland-Büchern, Sir John Tenniel, auf. Im zweiten Teil "Through The Looking Glass" (Alice hinter den Spiegeln) von 1871 ist die Protagonistin fast durchgängig (außer als Königin) in geringelten Strümpfen oder Strumpfhosen (vgl. Ausschnitt rechts unten mit Schwert) zu sehen.

Dazu trägt sie eine Art Ballerinas oder Mary Janes
(außer als Königin).




In der Kindermode haben sich Ringel-Looks bekanntlich bis heute gehalten. Aber auch im Bereich der Aktphotographie und des erotischen Modeling hat der Style eine lange Tradition, wie folgende Bilder (oben ca. Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts, unten Anfang des 21. Jahrhunderts) zeigen:

Sehr beliebt sind die schwarz-weißen Ringel heute wie erwähnt vor allem in verschiedenen Subkulturen wie Punk / Gothic und natürlich in den entsprechenden 'Alternative Porn'-Genres (links). Auch in den aus Japan kommenden Gothic Lolita- und Visual Kei-Szenen werden sie gerne getragen (rechts):

Auch wenn es viele Farb-Varianten dieses Design-Klassikers gibt, mag ich sie bis heute am liebsten in ihrer schwarz-weißen Form. Unsterblich schön.
