Cinderella Blue

Manche Photoshootings sind so schön, dass sie es wert sind, einmal in Gänze gepostet zu werden. Dazu gehört für mich definitiv diese märchenhaft wundervolle Aschenputtel-Inszenierung der jungen russischen Photographin Marianna Insomnia (eigentlich Marianna Orlova) mit Model Sophie Letyago als Cinderella. Alles in dieser Moskauer Inszenierung ist perfekt: Angefangen vom traumhaft schönen Outfit mit all seinen verspielten Details und dem schönen, liebevoll gestylten Model (allein die Haare sind eine Pracht, verantwortlich für Make-up & Haare war Darya Zubareva, die ganze Arbeit geleistet hat) über den großartigen und wunderschönen Schmuck bis hin zur witzigen Idee mit der Uhr als Accessoire (Ausstattung: Olga Rusetty Rusakova) – einfach zauberhaft! ♥♥♥

Some photo shoots are so beautiful that they are worth to be posted once as a whole. To me, one of these is definitively this fairy tale wonderful enactment of Cinderella by young Russian photographer Marianna Insomnia (her real name is Marianna Orlova) with model Sophie Letyago as Cinderella. Everything in this Moscow staging is perfect: Starting from the gorgeous outfit with all its dainty details and the beautiful, lovely styled model (the hair alone are magnificent, responsible for make-up & hair was Darya Zubareva who did such a great job) via the brilliant and wonderful jewelry right up to the funny idea with the clock as accessory (props: Olga Rusetty Rusakova) – simply enchanting! ♥♥♥

Nachdem am 1. Mai die Immobilienhochzeit mit dem proletarischen Wedding glücklicherweise auf subversive Weise abgesagt wurde, wende ich mich dennoch im Anschluss mal der Brautmode zu. Über Sinn und Unsinn der bürgerlichen, staatlichen und / oder religiösen Ehe mag ich hier und heute – trotz Freude über die sich international immer mehr durchsetzende gleichgeschlechtliche 'Homoehe' – nicht streiten. Tatsache ist, dass dieser Brauch Mode-Designer*innen zu Höchstleistungen anzuspornen scheint. Endlich dürfen sie sich 'austoben' wie sonst nur in der Haute Couture. Von mir aus könnte das modisch ruhig etwas in den Alltag überschwappen...
Wie schön wäre doch eine Razzia in all den Kleiderschränken (ehemaliger) Bräute mit all den verstaubten und nie mehr getragenen hübschen Hochzeitskleidern! Dazu so wundervoller Haarschmuck wie auf dem Photo oben – und dann ab damit auf den nächsten Ball, in den Club, in die Parks, zum lesbischen Rendezvous und auf die Straße... auch ganz ohne Hochzeit! (^.^)

Right after luckily the wedding of the real estate brokers with the proletarian Berlin district named Wedding (!) subversively has been cancelled on the 1st of May (Mayday), nevertheless I subsequently devote myself to the bridal fashion once. I don't want to controvert about sense and nonsense of the bourgeois, governmental and / or religious marriage here and now – despite joy at same-sex marriage is winning through more and more internationally. The fact of the matter is that this custom seems to stimulate fashion designers to peak performances. Finally they can 'have a fling' as otherwise they only can in the haute couture. If it was up to me, this really could find its way into the modish everyday life a bit... How beautiful would be a razzia in all those wardrobes of (former) brides with all those dusty and never worn again pretty wedding dresses! Thereto such marvelous hair accessories like in the photo above – and then away with it to the next ball, into the club, into the parks, to the lesbian rendezvous and to the streets... even without any marriage! (^.^)

Die Designs sind zugegeben selten besonders praktisch, aber wie die hier zu sehenden Beispiele zeigen, oft atemberaubend schön! Sehr schön finde ich den Körperschmuck auf dem Bild oben, ein Volltreffer bezüglich Schnitt, Raffinesse und Details ist das zwischen Avantgarde und Tradition, zwischen Minimalismus und Fülle changierende Kleid von Haute Couture-Designerin Celia Kritharioti aus Griechenland unten. Definitiv eines meiner absoluten Favoriten hier (ja, mein Geschmack ist recht teuer... *lach*)! ♥

Admittedly, the designs rarely are very functional, but as the samples to be seen here show, often breathtakingly beautiful! I very much like the body jewelry in the pic above, a direct hit regarding cut, sophistication and details is the dress by haute couture designer Celia Kritharioti from Greece below, oscillating between avantgarde and tradition, between minimalism and plenty. Definitely one of my absolute favorites here (yes, my taste is quite expensive... *lol*)! ♥

Mehr ist mehr / More is more

Dann gibt es die eher an alte Ballkleider erinnernden Varianten mit schier endlosen Mengen an Tüll, die einen Radius von mehreren Quadratmetern herbeizaubern. Das ist eigentlich gar nicht so unpraktisch, wenn frau auch mal ihre Ruhe haben will! (^.^) Demgegenüber ist in diesen drei Beispielen der Oberkörper recht freizügig und betont, was eine interessante erotische Spannung erzeugt. Besonders schön finde ich die herzförmige Corsage auf dem Photo oben. ♥

Then there are the variants rather reminiscent of ancient ball gowns with sheer endless masses of tulle which conjure a radius of several square meters. This is actually not so impractical at all when a woman wants to have her peace once in a while! (^.^) In contrast, in these three examples the torso is quite revealing and emphasized which creates an interesting erotic tension. Especially I like the beautiful heart-shaped corsage in the photo above. ♥

Am allerschönsten aber finde ich hier das letzte Brautkleid von Said Mhamad unten, bei dem ich neben der wundervollen Glitzercorsage auch das bestickte (halb)durchsichtige Oberteil liebe, welches mich ein wenig an die schönen Outfits 'meiner' geliebten Eiskunstläuferinnen und rhythmischen Sportgymnastinnen erinnert. Todschick die Schleifchen in den Armbeugen, die Pünktchen im Ausschnitt und an den Schultern und die Tattoos ersetzenden Glitzersteinchen an den Oberarmen. Wow! ♥

But the most beautiful here is in my eyes the last bridal dress by Said Mhamad below, of which beside the wonderful glitter corsage I also totally love the embroidered (half-)sheer top, which reminds me a bit of the pretty outfits of 'my' beloved ice figure skaters and rhythmic gymnasts. The little ribbons in the crooks of arms, the little dots around the neckline and the shoulders and the sparkling rhinestones replacing tattoos on the upper arms are drop-dead gorgeous. Wow! ♥

Ein schöner Rücken kann ja bekanntlich auch entzücken – dem wird in vielen Designs auch Rechnung getragen. Wohin dann mit den ansonsten üppigen Stoffmengen ist eine nicht ganz so einfach zu beantwortende Frage – vielleicht braucht es einfach eine hübsche Assistentin, sprich: Schleppenträgerin??? Für den 'Alltag' dann vielleicht doch der dritte Look (der mir hier auch am besten gefällt), denn bei dem ohnehin etwas 'fransigen' Stoffgewirr ist es vielleicht nicht gar so schlimm, wenn die bezaubernde Schleppe auf dem Boden einer Ruine schleift... ;-) ♥

As is well known, a beautiful rear can also endear – many designs take account of that, too. A question not so easily to be answered is where to put the, apart from that, lavish masses of fabric then – maybe it just takes a pretty female assistent, in other words: a train-bearer??? So for the 'everyday life' maybe better the third look then (which I also like the most here), as with the anyway a bit 'fringy' tangle of fabric it's maybe not such a problem when the enchanting train is trailed over the floor of a ruin... ;-) ♥

Zu einem Brautkleid gehören neben schönen Frisuren, Haar-, Ohr-, Körper- und Handschmuck natürlich auch Accessoires wie Brautsträuße und Clutches (die wir hier seltsamerweise gar nicht zu sehen bekommen) und – warum nicht? – Schirme! Schließlich sollte die stilbewusste Frau auf alle Eventualitäten vorbereitet sein... (^.^) Wem der durchsichtige Schirm oben nicht so gut gefällt wie mir, kann eventuell die 'Kollegin' unten fragen, ob sie noch ein wenig Spitzenstoff übrig hat, denn eine hübsche Alternative dazu ist selbstverständlich ein Schirm aus weißer Spitze! ♥

Of course, beside beautiful hairstyles, jewelry for hair, ears, body and hands, to a wedding dress also belong accessories like bridal bouquets and clutches (which strangely we don't get to see here at all) and – why not? – umbrellas! Certainly the style conscious woman should be prepared for any eventualities... (^.^) Those who don't like the sheer umbrella above as much as me perhaps may ask the 'chum' below if she has left over a bit of lace cloth, because a handsome alternative to it would be an umbrella made of white lace of course! ♥

Obwohl ich sogar demnächst auf eine Hochzeit eingeladen bin und mich schon fieberhaft frage, was ich denn tragen könnte, ist das ja bekanntlich auch keine Gelegenheit für einen Gast, sich ein hübsches Brautkleid zuzulegen. Ich muss mir also eine andere Ausrede einfallen lassen! Vielleicht ein Ausflug in ein Museum oder ein Schloss?

Though I'm even invited to a wedding soon and already frantically ask myself what I could wear then, as you know even that is no opportunity for a guest to get a beautiful bridal dress. So I got to find another excuse! Perhaps an excursion to a museum or a castle?

Einleitung

Nachdem beim mitreissenden PATOKAI-Konzert bereits Mode-Designs vom argentinischen Label VIBRADIOS Fashion (getragen von PATOKAI selbst) und die bezaubernden Hut-Kreationen von YAN HATS aus Buenos Aires, kombiniert mit einem Kleid von V I A N Fashion Berlin (beides getragen von Tänzerin EN FINSTERNIS) inszeniert wurden, gab es zum letzten Song "Infinitive" noch eine weitere Überraschung: unsere unerschrockene Heldin ANITA (bekannt von ihrem Auftritt mit Näd Mika bei STYLE! IT! TAKES! # 4 zur Fashion Week im Januar diesen Jahres und aus Näd Mikas Cassandra-Video) performte und tanzte in einem Zwangsjacken-Brautkleid (!!!) der konzeptionell arbeitenden Berliner Mode-Designerin SCHRÜPPE McINTOSH. Auf die Thematik der Zwangsjacke komme ich weiter unten nochmal zu sprechen, zunächst erst einmal der Songtext des PATOKAI-Liedes, das wir uns für diese Performance ausgesucht haben, weil der gesellschaftskritische und feministisch geprägte Text nicht nur sehr gut zu unserer queer-feministischen Performerin ANITA, sondern auch zu SCHRÜPPE McINTOSH's Zwangsjacken-Konzeption passt.

Introduction

After, at the stirring PATOKAI concert, fashion designs of the Argentinian label VIBRADIOS Fashion (worn by PATOKAI himself) and the charming hat creations of YAN HATS from Buenos Aires, combined with a dress by V I A N Fashion Berlin (both worn by dancer EN FINSTERNIS), have been staged already, for the last song "Infinitive" there has even been a further surprise: our brave heroine ANITA (known from her performance with Näd Mika at STYLE! IT! TAKES! # 4 for Fashion Week in January this year and from Näd Mika's Cassandra video) performed and danced in a straitjacket bridal dress (!!!) by conceptually working Berlin fashion designer SCHRÜPPE McINTOSH. I will come back to the topic of the straitjacket further below, as a start first the lyrics of the PATOKAI song we have chosen for this performance, because the socio-critical and feminist lines suit not only very well to our queer-feminist performer ANITA, but also to the conception of SCHRÜPPE McINTOSH's straitjacket.

ANITAs Hochzeit

Wie sich emanzipierte Menschen von gesellschaftlichen Konventionen befreien (müssen), so musste sich ANITA auch nach und nach von SCHRÜPPE McINTOSHs Mode 'befreien' - um sich überhaupt bewegen und atmen zu können... Die teils halbdurchsichtigen Materialien ließen durchaus voyeuristische Blicke auf nackte Hautpartien zu, aber die Performerin wirkte trotz der überquellenden stofflichen Masse weniger vor solchen Blicken geschützt als viel eher von dieser erschlagen, was durch den die Augen fast verdeckenden Pony der weißen Perücke noch unterstrichen wurde - fast ein 'Panopticon' der Körper-, Mode- und Genderpolitiken [zum Panopticon siehe: Michel Foucault - Überwachen und Strafen. Die Geburt des Gefängnisses (1975). Nach dem in diesem Buch analysierten panoptischen Blick-Regime ist übrigens (neben, zum Beispiel, Schulen und Krankenhäusern) auch die klassische Psychiatrie aufgebaut, und, wir erinnern uns, wir sprechen hier von einer Form der Zwangsjacke].

Dazu kamen zahlreiche körperliche Einhegungen: Die Ärmel überlang und an den Enden zugenäht (!), Unmengen von Stoff übereinandergetürmt und selbst Gesicht, Haare, Beine und Schuhe bis hinunter zum Fussboden verdeckend (siehe erstes Photo ganz oben), der 'Body' / Leotard unter dem Schleier wirkte fast wie ein 'Strampelanzug' (siehe das allerletzte Photo von ANITAs Performance weiter unten), mit Befestigungsknoten im Nacken, Fixiergurt (als 'Gürtel') um die Taille... aber das bekamen wir erst später zu sehen, als sich ANITA Stück für Stück wie ein Schmetterling aus der Puppe ihres Hochzeitskleides schälte...

ANITA's Wedding

Just like emancipated individuals (have to) free themselves from social conventions, ANITA had to 'free' herself from SCHRÜPPE McINTOSH's fashion step-by-step, too - simply to be able to move and breathe at all... The partly half-sheer (semi see-through) materials indeed allowed voyeuristic views on nude skin patches, but, despite of the overflowing material mass, the performer seemed less sheltered from such looks but rather bounded by it, something which has been even emphasized by the fringe of the white wig nearly covering the eyes - almost a 'Panopticon' of body, fashion and gender politics [for the Panopticon see: Michel Foucault - Discipline and Punish. The Birth of the Prison (1975). Incidentally, also the classic psychiatry (beside, for example, schools and hospitals) is structured according to the panoptical observation regime analysed in this book, and, we remember, we are talking here about a form of a straitjacket].

Along with that came numerous physical / bodily containments: the sleeves overlong and sewed up at the ends (!), oodles of fabrics piled up on top of each other and covering even face, hair, legs and shoes reaching down to the floor (see first photo at the top), the teddy / leotard under the veil appeared almost like a 'playsuit' (see the very last pic of ANITA's performance further below), with fixing knot in the nape, fixation belt (restraint) around the waist... but we got to see that not until later when ANITA emerged bit by bit out of her wedding dress like a butterfly out of its pupa (chrysalis)...

Das gilt sogar für unsere (wenigen) männlichen Künstler. Vor allem Gitarristen haben anscheinend ebenfalls zumindest einen Drang zum nackten Oberkörper (Camera bei Ed. # 1, The Wings of Desire bei Ed. # 5) hahaha... Vielleicht ist es ein Zeichen dafür, dass sich (nicht nur) Künstler*innen (insbesondere Frauen) bei unseren Events und unseren außerordentlich angenehmen Gästen wohl, sicher und frei fühlen... Das wäre schön für ein Projekt, welches - neben Mode und anderem - selbstbestimmte Weiblichkeiten feiern will (vergleiche unser Manifest)... ♥♥♥

This goes even for our (rare) male artists. Especially guitarists seem to have a yen to show at least their naked torso, too (Camera at Ed. # 1, The Wings of Desire at Ed. # 5) hahaha... Maybe it's a sign that (not only) artists (especially women) feel themselves comfortable, safe and free at our events and between our extraordinarily likeable guests... That would be lovely for a project wanting to celebrate - beside fashion and other things -  autonomous femininities (see our Manifesto)... ♥♥♥

SCHRÜPPE McINTOSH presents: New views on & interpretations of the straitjacket

Trotz ihres lustigen Label-Namens hatte sich SCHRÜPPE McINTOSH in ihrer Bachelorarbeit mit einem eher ernsten Thema auseinandergesetzt - mit der Psychiatrisierung von Menschen und den damit zusammenhängenden stofflichen Ausprägungsformen. Kurz: mit den Bekleidungsnormen der Psychiatriegeschichte. Aus Recherchen, theoretischen und modischen Auseinandersetzungen mit dem gesellschaftlich verdrängten Thema entstand im Sommer 2013 die Bachelorarbeit mit dem Titel "Ist (Nicht-)Mode eine Zwangsjacke? Reflexion zum Thema Individualisierung durch Mode und Bekleidung sowie deren Funktionen insbesondere im Kontext von Bekleidungsnormen in der Psychiatriegeschichte". Im Oktober 2013 wurde daraus eine Ausstellung mit dem Titel “Zwangsjacke. Neue Betrachtungsweise und Interpretationen”, die im Rahmen eines Festivals mit dem schönen Titel "Kunst ist ver_rückt" im Sächsischen Psychiatriemuseum (Leipzig) gezeigt wurde...

Despite her funny label name, in her bachelor thesis SCHRÜPPE McINTOSH had concerned herself with a rather serious subject - with the topics of psychiatry and the material forms in clothing connected with it. Briefly: with the norms of apparel / clothing in the history of psychiatry. Out of researches, theoretical and modish involvements with this subjects, mostly ignored in our societies, in summer 2013 her bachelor thesis emerged with the title "Is (non-)fashion a straitjacket? Contemplation about the topic of individualisation through fashion and clothing as well as their functions, especially in the context of clothing norms in the history of psychiatry".
In October 2013, an exhibition with the title “Straitjacket. New perspectives and interpretations” arised from that, which has been shown in the context of a festival with the fine title "Art is crazy" in the Saxon Museum of Psychiatry (Sächsisches Psychiatriemuseum) in Leipzig...

Eine aufregende und faszinierende Verschmelzung

Wow, was für eine Kombination: die Performerin und Tänzerin ANITA, die sich (unter anderem wissenschaftlich) feministisch und kirchenkritisch (Hochzeitskleid!) engagiert, Musiker PATOKAI, der in Argentinien als (mit einer Mode-Designerin verheirateter) Arzt in einer Polyklinik arbeitet und SCHRÜPPE McINTOSH, die sich als Mode-Designerin kritisch mit der Psychiatrie befasst hat, finden zusammen zu einer Performance zur Berlin Fashion Week! Ein krönender Abschluss unseres diesmaligen Bühnenprogramms und in dieser Form sicherlich einmalig, nicht nur in Berlin. Als Kuratorin möchte ich meine Freude und Dankbarkeit darüber ausdrücken, die Ehre gehabt zu haben, mit diesen drei faszinierenden, kritischen und außerordentlich liebenswerten Menschen zusammenzuarbeiten. Ein herzliches Dankeschön! ♥♥♥

An exciting and fascinating fusion

Wow, what a combination: performer and dancer ANITA, who is - also in scientific terms - very active in feministic politics and critical of the church (wedding dress!), musician PATOKAI, who works in Argentina as a doctor in a polyclinic (being married with a fashion designer) and SCHRÜPPE McINTOSH, who has considered critically the problem of psychiatry from the angle of a fashion designer, find together for a performance at Berlin Fashion Week! A culmination finale of our stage programme this time and in this form definitely unique, not only in Berlin. As curator I want to express my delight and gratitude for having had the honour to cooperate with these three fascinating, critical and exceptional endearing individuals. My heartfelt thanks! ♥♥♥
