Global resistance against Turkey's state terror

Calling for peace since such a long time...

[English translation below]

unseres eigentlich wunderschönen blauen Planeten an:

Global resistance against Turkey's state terror

After hesitating for a long time, if it is appropriate in this beautiful blog at all, in my post #TurkeysWarOnKurds I have reported to you from the brutal war of the 'EU pre-accession country' and 'NATO partner' Turkey against the Kurds and other democratic parts of society there, based on horrible photos, short texts and informations. In the light of the horror news and horror pictures arriving every day since summer 2015, of course the question arises if there is no resistance against it. Oh yes, there is, and actually not only in Turkey, but worldwide! And it includes all forms of protest, at all levels, from all sides.

Let's join and link...

(this call alone could bring me into jail in Turkey for years by the way)

Let's start on the (as seen from us in Berlin, Germany) other side

OZEANIEN OCEANIA

Canberra (Australia)

"TURKEY: STOP SUPPORTING IS - MURDERER ERDOGAN"
"Türkei: Hört auf den IS zu unterstützen - Mörder Erdogan"
Canberra, capital of Australia (~ 10 Feb 2016)

Situation in Australien:
In Australien leben etwa 15.000 Menschen kurdischer Herkunft.

Open letter to the Australian government: Lift the ban on the PKK

Situation in Australia:
Though on the part of the state the popular Kurdistan Workers' Party PKK is listed there since 2006 (after a state visit by Turkey's current president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan!) as a "terrorist organization" (same, by the way, in New Zealand), but the public sympathy is on the side of the Kurds since a longer time, especially because of their fight against the Daesh jihadists (IS). Some Australians even have joined the struggle of the PKK sister organization YPG in Syria, among them the by this time sadly fallen internationalist freedom fighters Ashley Kent Johnston (RIP Febuary 2015) and Reece Harding (RIP 27 June 2015), whose mother even visited his comrades in Rojava (Syria) after his death, what found a lot of media coverage not only in Australia. Hundreds of Kurds came to his funeral in Melbourne to honour him.
There are about 15,000 people of Kurdish origin in Australia. Roughly half of them have fled Turkey.

RIP Reece Harding (nom de guerre Heval Bagok Australi) † 27 June 2015
His mother & family visiting his #YPG & #YPJ comrades in Rojava (Syria)
Reece Harding died during a combat following the horrible jihadist massacre in Kobanê on 25th of June 2015 which deliberately killed more than 230 civilians when stepping on a mine laid out by the jihadist Daesh terrorists near Suluk, Ayn Issa.
RIP brave Australian freedom fighters Ashley Kent Johnston & Reece Harding who died for humanity

AMERIKA AMERICA

Washington D. C. (USA)

"STOP THE GENOCIDE IN KURDISTAN - USA HELP KURDS - TURKEY OUT OF KURDISTAN"
In the middle the flag of (Iraqi) Kurdistan, to the right the pennant of the Syrian-Kurdish
People's Defense Units YPG (both known for their brave fight against Daesh (Islamic State) terrorists)
White House, Washington D. C., capital of the United States of America (~ 10 Jan 2016)

Role of the USA:
The USA support both the Iraqi (Peshmerga) as well as the Syrian Kurds (YPG/YPJ) militarily in the fight against Daesh (IS), partly on the quiet also politically. However, the Obama administration (like the EU) makes outrageous concessions to 'NATO partner' Turkey in overlooking the Turkish bombardments of actual and alleged PKK fighters in Northern Iraq and even ignoring permanent border violations and Turkish attacks on the self-governed Rojava (which means the region liberated by the Kurds of the YPG/YPJ with the support of the USA in Northern Syria) and also stays silent about the state terror against the Kurds in Turkey itself. Considering that, protests in the USA against the ugly role of Turkey are very important. First goal has to be that the USA further on completely ignore the steady butthurt-chauvinist-arrogant lamentation of Turkey's AKP leadership (fortunately, so far that's what they do most of the time ;-)...).
But also in the USA the PKK still is listed as a terrorist organization, this got to change, too, in order to open the way for a peace process.

Academics for Peace

...that we will not be a part of this crime...

US intellectuals against #TurkeysWarOnKurds:
Judith Butler, Noam Chomsky, Cynthia Enloe, David Graeber

"The Turkish state has effectively condemned its citizens in Sur, Silvan, Nusaybin, Cizre, Silopi, and many other towns and neighbourhoods in the Kurdish provinces to hunger through its use of curfews that have been ongoing for weeks. It has attacked these settlements with heavy weapons and equipment that would only be mobilized in wartime. As a result, the right to life, liberty, and security, and in particular the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment protected by the constitution and international conventions have been violated.

This deliberate and planned massacre is in serious violation of Turkey’s own laws and international treaties to which Turkey is a party. These actions are in serious violation of international law.

We demand the state to abandon its deliberate massacre and deportation of Kurdish and other peoples in the region. (...)"

From the call of the Academics for Peace,
the complete text can be read here (also in Turkish)

Since January, a whole range of the greatest left-wing intellectuals of the USA followed an appeal started by 1,128 academics from 89 universities in Turkey, strongly condemning the brutal Turkish state attacks on Kurdish cities and towns and calling for peace talks between Turkey and the PKK to resume (extract above). Among them such big names as philosopher and philologist Judith Butler (University of California, Berkeley; known for her gender studies and her fundamental contributions to queer theory), world-famous anarcho-syndicalist linguist Noam Chomsky, feminist writer & professor Cynthia Enloe (University of California, Berkeley), anarchist activist, ethnologist and professor of economics David Graeber (currently London School of Economics and Political Science, prior among others Yale University), "most frequently quoted geographer of the world" and Marxist social theorist David Harvey (New York City, prior Baltimore, Oxford etc.; keyword: "Right to the city") and sociologist, historical social scientist and founder of the "World-System Theory" Immanuel Wallerstein (* 1930 in New York City). Among the over 355 academics from outside of Turkey are further luminaries like socialist British author, filmmaker and historian Tariq Ali (born in Pakistan), Alessandra Mezzadri (UK), Étienne Balibar (France), psychoanalyst philosopher and cultural critic Slavoj Žižek (Ljubljana, Slovenia; New York University (NYU)) and author and autonomist activist Franco Berardi (Italy).

The reaction by the Turkish leadership expectably was hysteric and brutal: immediate censorship, arrests, charges, disgusting threats and defamations. All signers have declared to not let them gag and continue. By now about 5000 academics have signed the petition, among them at least 2,212 in Turkey and 2,220 from abroad. Meanwhile, many new initiatives have been started internationally against the repression of the signers of the petition, among them in Turkey itself solidarity calls & initiatives from 138 theater actors & actresses, by 433 film makers, more than 164 authors & writers, over 150 journalists and many students.

You can sign the original petition of the Academics for Peace by sending your signature, name of your university and your academic title both to (as CC)

“We are face to face with the treachery of so-called intellectuals (...)
I am inviting them to Turkey, we are ready to tell them what is going on.”
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (AKP), president of Turkey, partner of Germany & EU

“So-called intellectuals the bell is going to toll for you first. Your blood is going to flow in streams and we are going to shower in that blood.”
Well-known fascist-jihadist Turkish organised crime boss Sedat Peker

(while large parts of the elected parliaments are in jail, he is free in #TerroristTurkey)

Judith Butler responded in style:

"The world needs to know why Turkey ended the peace process and laid siege to Kurdish towns, declaring war on civilians. The coupling of censorship and military control is a great danger to democracy. The labelling of critical discussion as treachery is an old and indefensible tactic of governments that want to broaden their power at the expense of democracy.”

Let's get closer to the heart of the problem of a possible cessation of Turkey's state terror:

EUROPA EUROPE

Bern (Schweiz/Switzerland/CH)

PKK-Fahne am türkischen Konsulat (^.^) PKK flag at the Turkish consulate
"Wow: love these laid-back Swiss cops in Bern, Switzerland ... youths hung a PKK flag on the Turkish consulate" (original title on Twitter)
Bern, de facto capital of Switzerland (8 Feb 2016)

Man merkt's *lach*. Vorbildlich!

Situation in Switzerland:
In difference to Germany and the EU, the PKK is not banned in Switzerland. As we can see *lol*. Commendable! Also the United Nations (UN), Russia and China btw do not list the PKK on their 'terror lists'.

PKK - Na klar!

Lift the ban on the PKK!
To the UK government, the European Union and the Turkish Government

PKK - Of course! Delist the PKK!

But the calls to follow the Swiss model and to finally remove the PKK from the EU 'terror list' are getting more frequent and louder. After in Germany last year the corresponding initiative of the left-wing party Die Linke failed due to the rejection by the conservative-socialdemocrat government (CDU/CSU & SPD) as well as by the Green Party (all three parties had incredible, hair-raising arguments for that; the latter embarrassingly is split regarding that topic), there is some movement in other EU countries (though most of its member states have not individually listed the PKK as a terrorist group anyway, these are beside Germany only Austria, France, Spain, the Netherlands and the UK) and at EU level:

Call from the European Parliament:
(15.02.2016)

In the United Kingdom there is also a campaign to "Lift the ban on the PKK!".

In France people meanwhile are creating precedents, also a charming option:

The KCK (Group of Communities in Kurdistan) was founded in 2005 by the PKK as a nucleus of the non-state community under the principles of "Democratic Confederalism".

Situation in Italien:

Situation in Italy:
The best news regarding the topic often come from Italy anyway. For example, Rome has made the Kurdish Northern Syrian town of Kobanî in Rojava officially to its sister city (twin city).
And just recently, on the 17th of February 2016, the city of Naples (Napoli) made PKK founder Abdullah Ocalan who is imprisoned in Turkey since more than 15 years held incommunicado a honorary citizen of the town. Wow! Many cities (for example Berlin or xxx (fill in your town yourself)...) should follow these examples!!!

Germany

(on 19th of March 2016 will be a huge Newroz (Kurdish New Year / Spring Feast) rally in Hannover)

In my eyes, the biggest problem of a solution in Turkey definitely is (beside the Turkish AKP government of course) Germany (I say that as a 'German', even though as a cosmopolitan person I don't consider myself as one). Our government's support for Turkey's fascist government in order to keep away refugees (actually, Germany has always supported Turkey, even before the so called 'refugee crisis') and the shocking silence about Turkey's war crimes in Kurdistan cry for a non-racist uprising in Germany itself. But right now, like elsewhere, its the German racists and fascists who 'call the shots'. Horror! Of course, there is a lot of resistance and solidarity with the Kurds (as well as with the refugees) in Germany, too. :-) There are ongoing, partly huge demonstrations and activities. Maybe I will report about all that in an extra post.

We stay tuned!
